The lanes around these rooms still pray. Cover a shoulder before you leave Downtown, not on the museum steps. A class of thirty will occupy the only readable screen; walk the garden and return after lunch rather than talk over children. Sit the garden if the screen is occupied.

Shoulder covered Downtown, 20 August

Not at the museum steps — on Galaa Street, before the metro. 09:05 — class of thirty on the only readable screen. Did not lecture them. Walked the garden, left, ate. 15:25 — room empty. One joint, one woven fragment beside it. 16:40 — drawing done. Liturgy audible from the Hanging Church lane. Stayed outside. What we did not do: enter an unnamed courtyard; raise a voice; couple Bab al-Khalq onto the same August card. Saint Anthony in the plate is another governorate: a reminder of distance, not a dare to add the Eastern Desert because Old Cairo was already on the map.

A collection inside a neighbourhood that prays

A raised voice in a small wood room wins nothing. Move the hour. Friday fills the lanes. Arriving already cooked from Giza is leftover heat, not rest. Name the meeting — screen, weave, or leaf — before anyone sells you a nave. Dress for the lanes. Ask whether liturgy is underway. Lower the camera when asked. The museum is a public collection. Prayer is not a display for visitors.

August metro plus a packed bag loads the climb. Plateau paper does not open these lanes. A postcard table is a table. If screen, weave, and leaf hold no colour when you sit on Galaa Street, the day ran too wide. The museum rooms can finish the morning without a nave. Heat and bags decide August. Toughness is not a credential this desk will print.

Lunch as the interval

Waiting is looking if the screen is what you came for. The towers next door are the lane, which you may walk. Walking into an unnamed courtyard chews the spur. They walked past on purpose. Two hours split by lunch can still be a finished line. Marching through liturgy is not a credential.

One destination on the board. One climb the legs can still hold. A halt named while tea is still tea. Tape at the museum still wins. A train that already left does not get another carriage coupled on.
